Rohan Phadte Many thanks for the great work. what about the regular codeium extension? It would be great to add DeepSeek there too

cursor has already implemented
John
just started using windsurf , i really wish it was using deepseek, claude doesnt remember and has bad memory and love to delete my stuff. We dont even need to use so many flow and steps with deepseek
David
John yes claude would upgrade your script then all of the sudden remove everything or brake it, funny with all this money we're paying
M Khanfar
now there is strong model from deepseek its called deepseek-reasoner
and i test it using deepseek api and select model deepseek-reasoner
in Windsurf using Roo Code extension that now support deepseek-reasoner
model !!!!! and its works perfectly!

Hey everyone! There are a few challenges to this, but we're actively working to make this work.
As an FYI, these new models are not great at tool calls, which makes it hard for these models to work in agentic workflows. We're also also trying to find capacity to serve these workloads, especially since Windsurf's agentic workflows require a lot of tokens across our user base. Hope to have an update for you soon.

Rohan Phadte Thank you for the update. Please consider using a provider that respects privacy and doesn’t train on the inputs. In other words, I would only use deepseek if it’s provided by for example together AI and not by the deepseek company itself.
John
Rohan Phadte Not everyone requires tool calls / agentic workflow. Do consider having Deepseek under non premium calls. The more i use deepseek directly , the more i realise it's a mini cascade because of it's thinking and thought process.
Regardless, really looking forward to having to use windsurf with deepseek and hopefully the cost is maybe half of premium calls.

Rohan Phadte Don't always need agentic behaviour sometimes just good reasoning. DeepSeek-R1 is excellent at that, much more thorough than Claude. R1 mind you, not V3.

Rohan Phadte Thank you for the update, I have a different agentic workflow in mind https://codeium.canny.io/feature-requests/p/deepseek-r1-sonnet-internal-agents while some of the providers for deepseek don't provide structured json or function calling deekseek itself does
David
Y funny enough what is privacy in modern world?

I really like the new Wave 2 updates after a couple of days (lags don't bother me when accuracy is the goal), but after reading about Deepseek and two weeks of skepticism, I tried it in VSCode with Cline. Wow. Please integrate this with Windsurf. It is the fastest, cheapest, and most capable option right now. Not flawless by any means, but it's shortened dev and debug significantly.

And now DeepSeek R1
sool
Icaro Ryan Yes, it is the best with its reasoning steps. Love it!

Deepseek v3 on Cursor
John
quan zhaoI R1 is also there, you can add it in manually deepseek-r1
Some AI God Or Something
Biggest issue windsurf has is that claude is actually retarded and is consistently changing code that doesn't need to be changed. "accidentally" removing critical code. No where need enough credits for this many errors in the coding.

Some AI God Or Something yes, the amount of code Claude "accidently" deletes is troubling
Brett Porter
Some AI God Or Something I am constantly chatting "Keep all of my existing functionality and styling" before and after my prompts. Definitely annoying but I got a snippet in Alfred to easily paste that in. Sometimes the conspiracy theory comes out in me and the models do that on purpose to eat away at my credits, or to make me actually use my brain for 5 seconds
sool
Brett Porter I have the same in my global rules and .windsurfrules, still gets ignore every so often by Claude.

Since my Windsurf credits have run out, I tried Roo-Cline+Deepseek v3 today to do some real work. I found it was much better than Deepseek v2.5 when I tested it, and it was very fast, even faster than Claude 3.5, which was beyond my imagination. And I saw that it can be deployed by itself on hugging face. I think it is a very good choice to replace the current cascade base with DeepSeek-V3, even using its API supports Claude 1/30 of the price. The development team should really consider this model seriously, without prejudice.
John
yellow I'm actually struggling with how Cline uses their upload token, it always ends up in the 100k token count for upload even when i didnt tag any folders. Are you facing the same issue?
